3 November: Godzilla rises in Japanese cinemas, and a bowl of Irabu-jiru
Godzilla stomped into Japanese cinemas on 3 November 1954. For a monster from the sea, a soup from the sea: Okinawa's irabu-jiru, made with smoked sea snake.

Irabu-jiru
Japan8.0
Irabu-jiru is an Okinawan soup of irabu, the smoked and dried Erabu sea krait, a banded sea snake of the warm western Pacific. The snakes are smoked until they are hard and dry, which keeps them for a long time, and before cooking they are soaked and simmered for hours until soft, giving a deep, smoky stock.
