4 November: Tutankhamun's tomb is found, and a bowl of Molokhia

On 4 November 1922 Howard Carter uncovered the first step down to Tutankhamun's tomb. We mark it with Egypt's best-loved green soup, molokhia, finished with a sizzle of garlic and coriander.

What happened

Howard Carter finds the first step of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings.

Why this soup

The tomb is in Egypt, so the day gets Egypt's best-loved soup. We are not claiming the pharaohs ate it.
