13 July: Ernő Rubik is born, and a bowl of Hungarian Goulash Soup
Ernő Rubik, the Hungarian who invented the Rubik's Cube in 1974, was born in Budapest on 13 July 1944. Hungary's goulash soup is our answer: cubes of beef, paprika red, solved in one pot.

Hungarian Goulash Soup
Hungary6.8
Gulyás began as the stew of Hungarian cattle herders, cooked in a kettle over an open fire on the Great Plain, and in Hungary it is still a soup rather than the thick stew known abroad as goulash. Plenty of onions are softened in lard, then cubes of beef are browned and generously seasoned with sweet Hungarian paprika and caraway.
