25 August: The first instant noodles go on sale, and a bowl of Ramen
On 25 August 1958 Momofuku Ando put the first instant noodles on sale in Japan. Today we honour the bowl that inspired him: proper ramen with broth, tare and springy noodles.

Ramen
Japan8.9

A bowl has three essentials: a rich broth, a concentrated seasoning called tare, and springy alkaline wheat noodles.
